B2U unlocks the potential of second-life EV batteries in large-scale battery energy storage systems without incurring repurposing costs by using its patented EPS technology.

Our proprietary technology and approach enable used EV battery packs to be repurposed without modification and at virtually no cost. This translates into large-scale stationary storage projects at significantly lower installed costs and superior Levelized Cost of Storage compared to storage solutions using new batteries.

Key Achievements and Milestones in B2U's History

The company was founded in 2019 by Freeman Hall and Mike Stern. B2U was spun off from Solar Electric Solutions (SES) which developed 100 megawatts across 11 projects.
B2U’s patented EPS technology has been in operation since 2020 in the 28 MWh/3 MW hybrid solar-plus-storage SEPV Sierra project in Lancaster, California. The project includes over 1,300 repurposed EV batteries and provides power and grid services to the CAISO wholesale market.
B2U closed a Series A equity round led by Marubeni in September 2021.
The 12.5 MWH/1.5 MW hybrid SEPV Cuyama project in Santa Barbara, California was commissioned at the end of 2023. The project includes nearly 600 EV battery packs and, like SEPV Sierra project, sells power and grid services into the CAISO market.
B2U is converting a 2.7 MW project developed by SES into a hybrid solar-plus-storage power plant. The One Ten Partners project is located in Palmdale, California and will have 10 MWh of storage capacity when it is completed.
B2U has secured U.S. Patent No. 11,289,921 and has U.S. Patent Applications No. 17,675,456 and 17,827,046
